Numbers Tell a Story: Unlock the Secret to Business Growth

When it comes to business success, numbers don’t lie. They’re more than just figures on a spreadsheet—they tell a story. Whether you’re looking to grow your business or take better control of it, understanding your numbers is the key.

Let’s start with a personal analogy to explain what I mean.

The Weight of the Truth

Here’s something about me: I’m an overweight guy. But what you might not know is that I work out—a lot. We’re talking five or six days a week, and these aren’t leisurely strolls in the park. I’m putting in the work, heart racing, sweat pouring.

So, why am I still overweight?

The answer lies in the numbers. My weight is a reflection of my eating habits. It doesn’t matter how hard I push myself in the gym if I’m not managing what’s on my plate. As a trainer once told me, “You can’t outrun your fork.”

This same principle applies to your business. You can hustle day and night, but if you’re not tracking the right metrics, you won’t know what’s holding you back or where to focus your efforts for improvement.

Numbers You Need to Track

If you’re not tracking your numbers, you’re operating blind. That’s why I firmly believe:

  • Pros track their numbers.

  • Amateurs don’t.

So, what are the key metrics every Mortgage Loan Officer (or any business owner) should be monitoring? Here are a few examples:

  1. Referrals: How many are you getting, and from whom?

  2. Pre-Approvals: How many are you completing?

  3. Conversion Rates: How many leads are turning into clients?

Without these data points, how can you identify where you’re succeeding and where you need to improve?

Why It Matters

Knowing your numbers allows you to spot trends, make informed decisions, and ultimately grow your business. For example, if your conversion rate is low, you can focus on improving your sales pitch. If referrals are down, you might need to strengthen relationships with referral partners.

Your numbers tell a story about your business, just like my weight tells a story about my lifestyle. And the good news? Once you understand the story, you can start rewriting it.

Ready to Change the Narrative?

Tracking your numbers isn’t just about accountability—it’s about empowerment. It’s about identifying the behaviors and activities that drive success and doubling down on them.

If you’re not sure where to start or want help identifying the key metrics that matter most, I’m here for you. Let’s start a conversation about how tracking numbers can transform your business.

Remember: The story your numbers tell isn’t set in stone. With the right focus and effort, you can change the ending.
