How Do You Make Business Growth Feel Automatic?
Short answer: Growth becomes automatic the same way any skill does — through intentional repetition, not motivation. The specific activities in your business (follow-up, database work, your weekly schedule, sales conversations) become "automatic" only after you've drilled them on purpose, over and over, until they require no conscious thought.
The soccer ball I can still strike, 30 years later: I played soccer in high school. Over 30 years later, in my mind, I can still hit almost any ball I want — because I did it thousands of times. Compare that to golf, which I picked up later — I still have to think about my grip, stance, tempo, weight shift. It's not automatic yet, because I haven't put in the same volume of intentional reps.
What this means for your business: A lot of loan officers want growth to feel automatic — referrals flowing, follow-up happening, content coming easy. None of that becomes automatic just because you want it to. It becomes automatic because you practice it with intention. The best LOs aren't winging it — they've repeated the right behaviors so many times that excellence became normal.
The question to ask yourself: What part of your business are you still having to think through every single time? That's the next thing to practice until it becomes muscle memory.
